Denmark – UK Nationals Strongly Advised to Obtain an EU Registration Certificate

What has changed

Due to the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the Danish Ministry of Immigration and Integration strongly recommends that all British nationals and their non-EU family members who are currently residing in Denmark apply and obtain an EU registration certificate as soon as possible. The EU Registration certificate will ensure that UK citizens and their family members can prove right of residence and will be legally residing in Denmark after the Brexit decision on March 29, 2019.

Please note that a UK citizen’s right of residence in Denmark is not dependent on whether or not an EU Registration Certificate is held. However, the EU certificate will make it easier for Danish authorities to verify their current immigration status.

Previously, British citizens and their non-EU family members did not require a residence permit to reside in Denmark, and EU nationals were only required to register as EU nationals.

Who is affected

All clients who have British nationals employees (with or without accompanying family members) residing and working in Denmark, who have not completed their EU Registration Certificate.

What to expect

Emigra Worldwide advises clients to verify that their UK employees and families who are residing in Denmark hold valid EU Registration Certificates.

Please note that if UK nationals have a valid Danish CPR number, then they also should have an EU Registration Certificate. There may be UK nationals who have previously resided in Denmark, returned to Denmark, but have yet to apply for a new EU Registration Certificate.
