Singapore – Changes to Dependent Privileges for Work Pass Holders

What has changed

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has raised the qualifying salary criteria for work pass holders (EP and S Pass) to sponsor passes for their dependents. Work pass holders need to meet a minimum Fixed Monthly Salary:

  • of S$5,000 per month to sponsor the stay of their spouse/unmarried child below twenty-on (21) years old (including legally adopted child) on Dependent Pass, and
  • of S$10,000 to sponsor the stay of their parents on Long Term Visit Pass

Previously work pass holders required a minimum Fixed Monthly Salary of S$4,000 per month to sponsor their spouse/ child on Dependent Pass and S$8,000 to sponsor the stay of their parents on Long Term Visit Pass.

  • Companies hiring foreign nationals.

New minimum salary requirements to sponsor dependents will go into effect on September 1, 2015.

  • This change does not affect renewal of the DP and LTVP with the same sponsoring company.
  • Any internal transfer to a different entity will be considered as a new application, which may affect the eligibility of the work pass holders to sponsor their dependents.
  • Sponsorship of Dependent Passes for newly married spouse or newborns will be affected if the work pass holder does not meet the minimum salary requirement.

Dependent Pass (DP) applications and Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP) applications received by the MOM before September 1, 2015 will be assessed using the current criteria. Dependents may arrive after September 1, 2015 within the validity time-frame of the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to have their Passes issued.
