What has changed
Further to an announcement made on April 19, 2018, please note that the Swiss authorities have announced that they will not be enforcing quotas for L work permits for persons from EU-2 states for the next ten (10) months. Only B work permits for EU-2 states will be subject to quotas until May 31, 2019 (249 per quarter; 996 in total). Previously, the Swiss government had planned to enforce quotas for both categories of L and B work permits for persons from EU-2 states if the maximum numbers of L permits for EU-2 states have been reached by the May 31, 2018.
Who is affected
Swiss-based employers who wish to hire Bulgarian and Romanian citizens who still do not yet have a Swiss permit.
What to expect
As of June 1, 2019, citizens from EU-2 states will fully benefit from the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons concluded between European Union and Switzerland.
What you need to do
- Advise clients to submit permit applications for EU-2 citizens as far in advance as possible of the start date and as early as possible at the beginning of each trimester.
