What is changing?
Effective February 4, 2018, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Coordination Committee approved a cabinet resolution issued in 2017 stipulating that UAE work visa applicants must now provide a Certificate of Good Conduct (cleared criminal background check).
Who will be affected?
- All clients planning to send an employee to the UAE, or who currently have a foreign employee working in the UAE due for a renewal of work permit.
What to expect
Going forward for all new cases, it will be required to procure a Certificate of Good Conduct (criminal background check clearance) from all countries of domicile for the last (five) 5 years and have that certificate legalized prior to submitting the work or resident permit application. This will result in the increase in the processing time and additional cost to the client. The legalized certificate then should be attested by the UAE Embassy in the home country or country of domicile. The legalized certificate then should be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in the UAE. This process change will result in an increase in the processing time and additional cost to the client.

- Be aware that processing wait times and costs will be affected for clients planning to send employees to the UAE or with employees who are up for renewal of work visa.
